The central Regional Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Mr. Joe Donkor has advised Ghanaians to stay awake and prepare themselves as the country is expected to experience heavy rains.
According to him, several communities get flooded during raining seasons which serve people homeless, vulnerable and also lives losses.
In other not to experience flooding in our communities, he appealed to communities to construct drainage systems, renovate deplorable buildings, avoid settling in water ways for their own safety.
He added, NADMO cannot refund loss properties like rebuilding your collapsed house, buy you a brand new tv set, replacing your rooftop etc, their mandate is to create awareness of disasters.
Appeal
Mr. Joe Donkor also appealed to media houses in the central region to allocate a time for NADMO officers to have on air discussions in other to educate the public.
He noted, it will help them to enhance their mass education and awareness campaign
“What we want to do now, is to create awareness for people to know the causes of disasters and ways of preventing them.
We will need support from the media houses so that, we can reach out to more people with ease”
