COVID-19: About 100 Health workers at Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba under Self-quarantine

About 100 Health Workers of Trauma and Specialist Hospital- Winneba in the Central Region has bee asked to undergo self – quarantine after a patient tested positive for COVID-19.

This revelation came after Nyce FM’s Kwabena Dwomoh Piesie conducted an exclusive interview with authorities of the hospital to inquire the truth in rumours circulating that, some health workers have testing positive for COVID-19.

According to the Nurse Manager of the hospital, Mrs. Mercy Efua Andoh, the patient, a football coach with travelling history was admitted at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the hospital after experiencing difficulty in breathing.

He was later transferred to a ‘special’ male ward in the hospital when he began to respond to treatment.The hospital took his sample for testing of which the result was received on Tuesday, 9th June,2020, weeks later which confirmed that he is COVID-19 positive.

As at Thursday, 11th June,2020, a total number of about 100 health workers have confirmed coming into contact with the COVID-19 patient.

“All heath workers who reported that they came in contact with the patient have been served notice to self-quarantine while their samples has been taken for testing ”.

They have also launched an extensive contact tracing to track anyone who also came in contact with the patient while a fumigation exercise in the Accident and Emergency Ward as well as the Male Ward of the hospital have also been embarked

Adhearing to the directives

She advised the general public to strictly follow all safety protocols outlined by Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). The public must also desist from loitering at hospital premises if they have no important assignment to undertake.
